Kitchen Transformation
Brownstones (and in this case, a Limestone, because the facade of the townhouse is covered in limestone rather than brownstone) can feel dark on the inside. The key to creating a light filled dining room in this home, was an arched opening in the wall between the kitchen and the dining room. This allowed all the light created by the enlarged kitchen door and window to flow into the dining room. The primary motivation for the arch was that my client wanted to visit with guests while cooking without having to share the narrow kitchen work space. The transformation of the dining room into a more welcoming space was a bonus. The wing chairs at the ends of the table are used in front of the fireplace in the adjoining room until they are needed as host chairs in the dining room. The chandelier is vintage but the mirrors are new reproductions.
